To be considered a refugee, the first consideration is to show you’re unable to live safely in your country due to the fact you fear persecution there.
The risk of persecution must be for one of the following reasons:
-
Your race;
-
Your religion;
-
Your nationality;
-
Your political opinion or
-
Anything which puts you at risk because of the social, cultural, religious or political situation in your country
You must also prove that the authorities failed to protect you in your country.
It is recommended the asylum application is made as soon as possible. Any asylum application can be made at any UK port.
Once a person has been granted asylum they are thereafter considered a refugee and they are granted full protection.
